Life with AuDHD can be tough. By the end of the day I have processed too much. Felt too much. Given too much of myself. My nervous system has had enough.
To help me regulate I have tried and tested many things. The main activity that brings me back to myself quickly is a warm bath.
Not to wash myself.
Just to sit and feel my body connect with the soft warmth of the water.
I like deep pressure and the floaty feeling. A bath gives me both.
Enduring endometriosis is also a cause for a warm tub of water encapsulating my body.
If my day has been emotionally hard I opt for deep pressure hugs or massage. The more intense the squeeze the faster I return.
More often than not closing the curtains, dimming the lights, and watching nostalgic television shows works well — after my bath.
I am looking forward to our first family holiday in fifteen years, because the evening walks will be filled with sea air and the sound of birds. And I know that will bring me so much peace and harmony.
I am still looking for new ways to return at the end of long days.
I am listening to my body more and following its lead.

Edited Version:
What Helps Me Unwind
Life with AuDHD can be a lot.
By the end of the day I have processed too much.
Felt too much.
Given too much of myself.
My nervous system reaches its limit.
Over time, I have tried many ways to come back to myself.
Some stay.
Some don’t.
The one that works most reliably is simple.
A warm bath.
Not to wash.
Just to sit.
To feel my body soften into the water.
To reconnect.
I crave deep pressure and that quiet, floating feeling.
A bath gives me both.
Endometriosis, too, often leads me back there—
to warmth that holds rather than demands.
On harder days, I reach for pressure in other ways.
Tight hugs.
Firm touch.
The kind that brings me back into my body quickly.
Afterwards, I close the curtains, dim the lights,
and let something familiar play in the background.
Old shows.
Known voices.
Nothing new to process.
Just enough to settle.
I find myself looking forward to our first family holiday in fifteen years.
Evenings filled with sea air,
and the sound of birds.
I already know that will bring me a kind of peace
I don’t have to work for.
I am still learning new ways to return
at the end of long days.
But I am listening more now.
And I trust my body to lead me back.
