Writing Prompts

By

Sometimes I need them. ADHD can often take my focus elsewhere when I should be thinking of a topic to write.

Writing prompts just help to keep me on track.

Today I pulled a random prompt from the stack of cards, looked at it and thought “how can I write from that?” The question was — How is the 2pm version of you different from the 2am version of you?

Get with me here because all miss literal here had was — 2pm me wants to be asleep and 2am me is asleep! And that is true. That is my surface level answer. The one my brain automatically gives me, as if the question was stupid.

It could go deeper — and I know it does. But not today, because my capacity stops at surface level today.

My brain is protecting me from looking too deep within myself to figure out what 2am version of me gets up to — believe me if I had the ability to write it out it would probably be about crazy dream state me.

AuDHD is like this for me. Some days I am so deep I lose people’s attention. Then I crash and become overly literal for a little while.

And that’s ok, because I still managed to make use of the writing prompt card and produce something.

I’d say that is still a win today.
