There are days when nothing is wrong,
and yet everything is impossible.
The idea is there.
The want is there.
The care is there.
But my body does not receive the message.
This is the part no one sees.
Not laziness.
Not procrastination.
Not avoidance.
Paralysis.
ADHD pulls me forward with urgency; do it now, do it all.
Autism pulls me inward; not like this, not yet, not safely.
And I am left standing between them,
frozen in the doorway of my own life.
My mind runs.
My nervous system locks.
I scroll, not because I want to,
but because it’s the only movement available to me.
The shame comes quickly.
“You’ve done this before.”
“Why can’t you just start?”
“Other people manage.”
But this is not a failure of will.
It is a nervous system asking for conditions I do not yet have.
Sometimes what I need is not motivation,
but quiet.
Or permission.
Or someone to understand that trying looks like stillness.
I am not broken.
I am paused.
And pauses are not the opposite of progress.
They are often the cost of surviving in a world that moves too fast.

Author’s note
If this feels familiar, you are not alone.
Paralysis is not a personal flaw; it is information.
