My Internal Home
The Entrance Hall
Inside my mind there is a home.
It holds my inner child.
This home is grand, with Gothic architecture, expansive grounds, and many, many rooms.
Allow me to take you on a little house tour, guided by my hyperphantasic imagination.
Your car is coming up the long driveway now. It is a single country-style road with smooth, new tarmac. On either side stretch luscious green fields, home to six beautiful ginger Highland cows. They rest behind simple iron fencing made of three horizontal bars.
I am stood in front of my large, heavy mahogany door — black metal fixtures, of course — and I see you approaching the gravelled circular driveway, where an ornate tall fountain takes centre stage.
Oh… there you are. Come with me to the entrance hall. I have not long since arrived back here myself. Only a few rooms have been decorated so far.
The entrance hall is very large and spacious. I kept the floor traditional with black and white marble tiles, and the walls are finished in rich mahogany panelling. Directly ahead of you is the grand staircase, dressed in deep crimson plush carpet and framed by mahogany banisters.
That scent you notice is Nag Champa incense, burning softly on the round glass-topped black iron table to your left by the door. It carries a gentle, musky warmth — indulgent and quietly mystical.
There are six heavy doors along the hallway, three on each side, all in keeping with the mahogany theme. They lead to my internal rooms.
I’m sorry — let me turn on the soft, warm candle lighting with this switch just behind you. There we go.
I would like you to meet my nanna. She loves looking down from the balcony above — always a smiling face and a warm embrace waiting to greet me when I come home.
We could linger here a while longer, but I have another room to share with you.
This one is the heart of the house.
Please, follow me.
Hear the beautiful clomping of our heels against the marble, echoing gently around the hall.
Now, let us enter through the first door on your right. Twist the knob and push firmly — the carpet in this room is wonderfully deep.
Welcome to my library.
