Overdiagnosed, You Say?

By

“ADHD… everyone has it these days.”

It might look that way.

Some of us were simply missed as children.

“There was never autism when we were young.”

Yes, there was.

You just didn’t have the language for it.

“Why does everyone want a label now?”

We don’t want labels.

We want answers.

We want to understand why life has always felt so much harder than it seemed for everyone else.

“They’re just work shy.”

Painfully shy.

Unable to speak to strangers.

Executive dysfunction so overwhelming it can reduce us to tears.

“ADHD isn’t even that bad.”

My history of self-harm,

suicidal thoughts,

burnout,

and years of believing I was broken…

would disagree.

“A diagnosis won’t change anything.”

No.

It doesn’t erase autism.

It doesn’t cure ADHD.

It doesn’t remove disability.

What it does…

is replace decades of confusion with understanding.

It gives grief somewhere to rest.

And that changes everything.

“You’ve got this far in life.”

I haven’t lived this far.

I’ve survived this far.

There is a difference.

“Labels, labels, labels…”

No.

Awareness.

Research.

Recognition.

Understanding.

Diagnosis.

Compassion.

Finally…

coming home to yourself.
